kogi bbq… WOW

kogibbq

Kogi BBQ is a perfect example of why I love living in Los Angeles so much.  Because it’s a city that thrives on all things cool, hip and relevant – there’s always some new THING that you just have to experience.  And right now, one of those things that everyone is talking about are the tacos from the KOGI BBQ trucks.  It’s one of those word-of-mouth phenomenons that slowly but surely makes its way to the mainstream (last night we heard that there’s an article in Newsweek about Kogi BBQ).

So what exactly is Kogi BBQ?  Well – it depends on who you ask, but this is the story according to several guys we talked to while waiting for the truck to show up at its 10:00 destination (ftr – it didn’t show up until 10:45 – but it was cool, because the Kogi guys use twitter to let customers know where they’re heading and what time they’ll arrive).  Kogi BBQ is a couple of short order food trucks (a la Caddyshack II) that serve tacos that are a cross between Korean BBQ and Mexican.  And after eating two short rib tacos I can easily say they’re up there among the best foods that I’ve EVER eaten… in my whole life.

They’ve only been operating since late November, but the lines accumulating are ridiculous because everyone wants to see what all of the buzz is about.  There were probably somewhere between 60-80 people in line when we left and the truck had only been there for about 15 minutes.  Check out the video below of me taking my first bite [correction - I mispronounced Kogi... apparently I should have used a hard G.]:

And for anyone thinking about taking a trip to LA anytime soon, KogiBBQ has now officially been added to my ‘take people here’ list.
